Job Development

Words of joy reverberate for Center staff when clients secure employment, Job development and preparation is done in a variety of areas ranging from entry-level positions to professional employment. The philosophy of the African Resource Center is that once a client meets the challenge of finding their first job in the United States, moves to a better job, or gets training to begin a whole new career they will be able to meet other challenges in their lives. A steady job and income equates to vitality and hope for individuals and their families; hope that eluded them before they walked into the doors of the Center.

Finding and retaining employment in a new country is not easy. A newcomer may not know the rules of the American job market. He or she may not feel comfortable with the language. Even for someone who has been in the country for years, the task of finding a new or better job may require some assistance, or just a supportive ear.

The African Immigrant and Refugee Resource Center has job developers to help clients meet the challenge of finding a job in the United States. The services from these programs are employment assessment and counseling, resume preparation, job training, job placement, job retention, computer training, and career development.
